Dr. Bishav Mohan is the Chief Cardiologist cum Coordinator at the Hero DMC Heart Institute. His research is focused on implantation of public health issues. He is a pioneering cardiologist whose groundbreaking contributions, including the introduction of ECMO for aluminum phosphide poisoning, and mechanical breakdown and lysis for high-risk pulmonary embolism patients in India, have transformed patient care. With over 20,000 cath lab procedures and 180 research presentations to his name, he was honoured with the Cardiological Society of India's Travel Fellowship Award in 2011, and was named an Honorary Professor of the Public Health Foundation of India in 2020. Dr. Mohan seamlessly blends expertise, research, and community service to save lives and advance public health.
Born in Rampura Phool, a small rural village in Bathinda district, Punjab, Dr Mohan grew up in an environment that fostered resilience and a strong desire to serve others. He completed his matriculation at a government school, an experience that grounded him in the realities of rural life. Driven by a passion for medicine, he attended Government Medical College, Patiala, where he earned his MBBS degree (1990). Dr. Mohan completed his MD (Medicine) at the Government Medical College, Amritsar (1995), and his DM (Cardiology) at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (1998).
He later augmented his training with a Fellowship in Invasive Cardiology at Escorts Heart Institute of Research Centre in 1999, before joining the cardiology department of the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital as a consultant in 2001. His dedication, skill, and leadership led to his promotion as a Professor of Cardiology in 2010. Dr. Mohan, with the support of his colleagues, initiated many new interventional procedures including vascular intervention, complex coronary intervention, balloon valvular intervention procedures and electrophysiology. His administrative capabilities were recognized when he was appointed as the Additional Medical Superintendent in 2014, and later as the Medical Superintendent in 2020. In 1st October 2024, he was appointed as the Chief Cardiologist cum Coordinator.
